Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native was born and raised in the city. Her mother Pam has been a previous backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her a position as curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved in to the historic landmark. She graduated in 2005 of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was singing music major. Sullivan played the contralto singer for the youth choir, and in the years later she joined as an adult in the choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I performed solos at churches and a person wanted me to be a part of the gospel label at age was 11, but I was not yet ready," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for youngsters in the major cities I had the opportunity to perform 'Accept what God Does' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well". At the age 13 she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan made her first signing to Jive Records when she was fifteen. When she was 15, she was signed to Jive Records. She made the entire album, but it wasn't released. Sullivan was then removed off the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for several tracks from their debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers", a buzz track recorded by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
